1. Didn’t you just publish a piece about how this “every game ever” approach to blogging ruined your life?

2. I will thank you not to besmirch the good name of the Virtual Boy

3. Space Station Silicon Valley is criminally underrated

4. Keep me in the ol’ Rolodex if you’re looking for partner authors

1. Indeed! Although at the end of that article, I sorta gave myself permission to go back to reviewing all the Sega games with a caveat. "I’m not opposed to reviewing more games on “Sega Does” again in the future, but I’m cautious to give myself over to it, as I once did."

Basically, this Nintendo venture... I can't lose myself in it. It has to be fun for me, casual, not an obsession, not a way to win friends and make money. Can I keep it casual? We shall see...

2. I'd be more open to Virtual Boy, if it didn't give me a splitting headache.

3. Absolutely!

4. Message me if there are any games you'd like to write about!

My little pet theory, which I'm sure I'll mention in my own series, is the extent to which the Game Boy (alongside its spiritual father the Walkman, of course) primed us for our current society-wide cell phone addiction.

Interesting point about the Game Boy. I never had one growing up, so I can't speak to that. That said, I can attest that Sony's Discman helped me check out of reality from a very young age.

Please cover Maniac Mansion for the NES. I could beat that game as a kid but now as an adult, I’ve forgotten so many tricks and I refuse to google about it because I figured it out as a 10 year old, I should be able to now.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely covering Maniac Mansion! What a hard, fascinating game.

Haha, I feel ya on the frustration of understanding a game as a kid, so why can't my adult self figure it out?

I'm surprised at how many people know/remember Virtual Boy -- I didn't think anyone remembered the red-on-black induced headaches and dizziness. Technical issues aside, it was probably the first commercial "immersive" game experience!

Wii could have been great(er) if they kept at it...I mean, I could imagine a different future where Nintendo was leading the way in the VR gaming space. They just needed to mash together the Virtual Boy and Wii concepts together in a coherent way (I know, it probably isn't THAT simple...)

Virtual Boy had potential for sure, I just think it needed some more refinement. But if I'm not mistaken, the Nintendo president at the time wanted it rushed out for the holiday season.

I had a blast with Wii until I didn't. Nintendo's intense pivot towards the casual market... I understand why they did it, it was a reaction to the Gamecube era, but that left me cold.

Mashing Virtual Boy and Wii concepts together would be wild! Sounds like a Nintendo experiment for sure.

Godspeed! This is an amazing(ly large) endeavor, and I'm glad to be here from the start. It'll be fun to see the progression (both in you playing a writing about the games and in how games development grew and changed through time) and I'll definitely hop on to play along here and there.

Maybe worth a DM, but I’m curious how you’re physically playing - console or emulator or whatever, and if the latter, I want to get your setup if you don’t mind sharing it! I’d love to play a few of the titles alongside while you do to make reading this series more lively. Cheers!
