I'll never forget Dubba Dribba solely for that intro sound byte and the cinematic dunks. I thought basketball games could never get any better, and I was right!
That old Konami aesthetic is so nostalgic. Have not thought about Double Dribble in decades but used to play it on the trusty C64 back in the day. Might have to hunt down a rom and hit the courts to see how its aged.
Hilarious review of Double Dribble. Hadn't thought about this game in years, but I do remember "Dubba Dribba" now that you mention it.
Lode Runner -- the main thing that strikes me about this game, in retrospect, is how many sequels and other versions of it were produced. Just look at the Wikipedia: there was even a version for iPod!
Who were all these for? I don't know anyone who really liked ANY version of Lode Runner. For me it was an instant-regret one-time rental that deserves to go down in history at around the same tier as Mighty Bomb Jack. Was it big in Japan or something?
Thanks! Yeah that line reading is pretty iconic. Shrill and iconic.
Japan loved the Famicom version of Lode Runner for sure. But I’m with you, the game is fun and it can run on just about anything (hence the million ports), but it’s not a masterpiece by any means.
"Monet would be pleased" killed me hahahaha
Haha, thanks Holly!

It's amazing how well the game holds up nearly 40 years later!

I love the C64, so many fond memories of playing Carmen Sandiego with my grandpa.
If you do play Double Dribble on there soon, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
That is a stunningly hideous game even for 8bit standards, might have to pick it up someday
No argument here!

I'm not usually a fan of sports video games (NES track and field being the exception), but this sure is something else.
They sure do embrace the short shorts for the uniforms, don't they?
Track and Field is great also, but yeah, Double Dribble is still a solid basketball title. The first one on the NES too!
Well yeah, gotta have something for the ladies!
